POLSON — In two meets, the Polson wrestling team amassed 153 points last week against divisional-foe Whitefish.

In the first match-up last Tuesday, ninth-ranked Polson scored 78 points, with eight pins, to Whitefish’s three.

Last Friday, the two teams met again, with Polson winning 75-6. In both meets, Whitefish had six forfeits.

“It’s really hard with that many forfeits,” head coach Bob Owen said.

The Pirates went on to compete in the Frenchtown Quad wrestling meet, facing Corvallis and Frenchtown.

In the 45-39 win over Corvallis, five Pirates registered pins. Sophomore Josiah Clairmont had the fastest in 23 seconds as freshman Craig Feistner, senior Devin Kamarainen, senior Brock Picard and senior Kaden Thomas each had a stop. Junior Jacob Young won a 9-2 decision at 135 pounds.

The Pirates went on to lose by two points to No. 7 Frenchtown 44-42.

Picard and Thomas started the meet out with a pin to put the Pirates up 12-3. Feistner registered a pin at 105 before Frenchtown won a forfeit, earned a pin and won a major decision.

Freshman Nate Brooks and Young each got a stop before Frenchtown put points on the board with two pins of its own.

Sophomore Chris Cote and senior Ty Fouty each earned pins to get Polson’s last points.

At 215 pounds, Clairmont impressed Owen last weekend. Clairmont had a pin in each of the Whitefish duals, each under 40 seconds, and added another against Corvallis. He dropped an 11-5 decision to Frenchtown’s Brennan Fisher, who is ranked second in the weight class.

“He wrestled very well,” Owen said. “I’m really happy with the progress he is making.”

Polson wrestled in its last home meet Tuesday against Columbia Falls. Results were unavailable at press time.

The Pirates will travel to Ronan on Friday in its last dual of the season. Ronan and Polson are 1-1 this season.

“We are hoping to win the rubber match,” Owen said. “There will be a bunch of big matches. It’s important for seeding.”
