Warriors finish fourth

THOMPSON FALLS — The Arlee wrestling team came home last weekend with nine trophies. The team finished fourth while junior Cole Rice and sophomore Logan Lefler took home gold and three Warriors took third place and three took fourth. 

Rice pinned Mission/Charlo’s Dakota Matt in the championship of the 140-pound class. To make it to the final match, Rice pinned Thompson Falls’ Cody White with a pin at 1:12 and Drummond’s Barrett Stanghill in 1:41.

Lefler pinned the 125-pound No. 1 seed, Mission/Charlo’s Scotty Gilleard, to win the championship. To get to the final match, Lefler stopped Missoula Hellgate’s Nick Holzworth in 35 seconds and pinned the No. 2 seed, Superior’s Mason Chatterly, in the third period.

For third place, freshman Austin Rubel, at 105 pounds, beat Flathead’s Kaileb Liehr, Zach Tameler, at 145, beat Eureka’s Curtis McDuffie 6-4, and junior Damon Cordier defeated Missoula Big Sky’s Tanner Orr in the 160-pound match.

Freshman Cameron Dominick, at 119 pounds, sophomore Carter Clinkenbeard, at 130, and junior Bryce Norling, at 215 pounds, each took fourth.

Arlee wrestled Drummond and Florence on Tuesday night. Scores were unavailable at press time.

The Warriors travel to Thompson Falls tonight and to Darby this weekend for a tournament.

Maidens lose two

Sophomore Nina Orozco dives for a ball during the Tip-off tournament. Against Big Sky last Tuesday, Ronan lost 63-13. Junior Jonna Grant led with four points and went two-for-two at the free throw line. Last Saturday, the Maidens lost 40-33 to Mission. Orozco led with nine points.
