The Missoula Children’s Theatre kicks off a week of “Rumpelstiltskin” with auditions on Monday, Feb. 1, in Troy.

On Saturday, Feb. 6, the production will stage two shows on the Troy High School Auditorium stage. The curtain goes up at 3 and 6 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre provides weeklong residencies that focus on working with local students in a full-scale musical. The organization has been touring for 35 years visiting nearly 1,300 communities all over the United States, as well in Canada and other countries.

MCT says its educational projects promote creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem.

Local children will work with two professional tour actor/directors who arrive with scenery, costumes, props, make-up and basic lighting.

This residency begins Monday with an open group audition and culminates in the two public performances on the following Saturday. A combination of students in grades K-12 are cast and well rehearsed throughout the week to learn lines, songs and choreography.

All shows are original adaptations of children’s stories and fairytales – a twist on the classic stories that many know and love.

The event is sponsored locally by Troy Parks and Recreation and the Troy Fine Arts Council.
