Dinner, auction to benefit 1-year-old cancer patient

There's still time to help a 1-year-old cancer patient.

A dinner, silent auction and live auction will all be included at the event to help the family of Emmett Snyders, the Coeur d'Alene infant who has undergone several tests and biopsies since being diagnosed with neuroblastoma a few months ago.

"It amazes me this child keeps smiling," said Catherine Thomas, a friend of the family who is helping organize the event. "This is something adults should go through, not 13-month-old children."

Members of the community have donated a flood of items for the event auctions, she said, in hopes of helping Emmett's parents, Brian and Maren, afford the hospital bills.

"I thought ticket sales would go right along with this, but they're not," Thomas said, adding that only 80 of the 250 tickets have been sold so far. "We've got all these wonderful, fun donations from throughout the community. Now we just need people to come and open their hearts and open their wallets."

The fundraiser is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, July 10 at the Eagles Lodge in Coeur d'Alene.

Tickets can be purchased by calling Thomas at 651-3523.

They can also be obtained at Prairie Family Medicine at 1130 W. Prairie Ave. or at Yacht Club Sales and Service at 1000 S. Marina Drive.

Tickets are $30 for an individual, and $50 for a couple.

Donations in Emmett's name can be made at any Inland Northwest Bank location.

"The family's faith in God is pulling them through this," Thomas said. "The Snyders are not looking for help. They're looking to heal their child."
