July 17th may seem like a long ways away, but it will be here before you know it, and if you’re a bass angler this is an important date. It’s when the 20th Ray Stanley Memorial Bass Tournament in Pateros will take place, and this would be a great year to participate in the event. There are more than ever-local sponsors and KOZ and even Cabella’s is involved this year. The entry fee is just $100.00 per boat. Registration will take place at the Pateros boat ramp at 4:00 a.m., a drivers meeting at 4:30 and blast off at 5 a.m. The weigh in will be around 3 p.m. If you want to join the fun of this 20th anniversary tourney, you can find entry forms and rules at www.paterosapj.com. The pay out for 1st through 5th place will be 80 percent. The big fish pot for largemouth and smallmouth is twenty dollars and the pay out is 100 percent. The tournament takes place the same weekend as the annual Apple Pie Jamboree in Pateros, which just gives everyone another reason to come on up and join the fun.

Opportunities to catch steelhead abound

We've had a lot of wet but actually pretty mild weather in the region. Anglers that like to chase steelhead have had good conditions for it. The announcement of the closure of the steelhead seasons on several of our rivers here in Central Washington wasn't as severe as anticipated. I will provide the details of the closures and share my experiences on the water in this column. There is still a lot of water open to fishing. I am continuing to do my duty to remove as many hatchery fish from our rivers as possible.

I want to be sure everyone is aware of the big seminar coming up at Town Ford on January 12th. For the first time ever Buzz Ramsey is coming to Wenatchee to share his insights on steelhead fishing. Buzz has been named to the Hall of Fame with the Association of Northwest Steelheaders and the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. He is also a Pro-Staffer for a variety of very big name makers of fishing products, including Berkley, Abu Garcia, Minn Kota, Willie Boats, Mercury Motors and others. I am happy to also announce that Anton Jones, Darrell and Dads Family Guide Service, has agreed to be at the seminar, too. He guides on Rufus Woods and will provide information on how to fish for the triploid rainbow up there. He has been fishing Rufus Woods for many years and will have current information on the fishing up there. The seminar is going to be a very special one and I hope you all can make it. I also want to remind everyone that my Signature Salmon Spread is now available at Mike's Meat and Farmers Market on North Wenatchee Avenue. Get some for your New Year's Party!
