POST FALLS - Post Falls is making Saturday a walk in the park.
The city will showcase Syringa Park and Chase Sports Field with free family-oriented activities at each site during its first Post Falls Parks Day.
"We want people to know what our parks have to offer," said Traci Stevenson, Post Falls recreation supervisor. "It's a way to get people out to finally enjoy some sunshine and offer a fun, family event."
Activities at Syringa Park in the Fieldstone subdivision north of Poleline Avenue and east of Idaho Street run from 9-11 a.m.
There will be coffee and doughnuts, volleyball, basketball, a bounce house, "Minute to Win It" game, police cars, fire trucks and an obstacle course organized by firefighters.
To get to the park from Poleline and Syringa, continue north on Syringa about a half a mile. Syringa Park is on the left.
The seven-acre park has a playground, basketball courts, a volleyball court, picnic shelter, restrooms, walking path and benches.
Chase Sports Field will be featured from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Participants can meet Otto, the Spokane Indians mascot, try out the baseball pitching machine, bring their bikes for the bike rodeo organized by the police department and do the firefighters' obstacle course. There will be free hot dogs, chips and water.
The park, just north of River City Middle School, includes two ball fields, a playground and walking paths.
From Spokane Street, go west on 20th or 21st Avenue to the park.
Stevenson said the day, patterned after a similar event in Coeur d'Alene on the same day, is intended to be an annual event.
"Next year we'll choose two different parks and we may add on music entertainment," she said. "We're starting out small with the intent of growing."
