Mariners rally past Anacortes
The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 14 years, 6 months AGO
Mission Valley scored three runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning, the final one with two outs, to slip past Anacortes, Wash., 4-3 Saturday afternoon and stay undefeated at the John R. Harp Tournament at Griffin and Archie roe fields.
Mission Valley (34-14) also stopped Mt. Spokane in a morning American Legion baseball contest on Saturday, 7-5.
Justin Evans scored the game-winning run for the Mariners against Anacortes on a fielding error in the outfield to cap off a exciting victory.
Tim Rausch finally put the Mariners on the scoreboard in the sixth inning with a solo home run to left field.
It was Rausch’s sixth round-tripper of the season.
Mission Valley had a chance to score earlier when Xavier Morigeau tripled in the fourth inning, but the Mariners failed to advance him.
Justin Evertz had Mission Valley’s other extra base hit — a double.
Kaileb Gillingham went 2 for 4 and drove in a run for the Mariners.
Mission Valley did all of its scoring in the first two innings to sink Mt. Spokane. That game was stopped after six innings because of the two-hour time limit for all tournament games.
The tournament ends today with three games at Griffin Field, starting at 10 a.m., and two games at Archie Roe Field, also starting at 10 a.m.
Ten teams are entered in the three-day event.
