The DNRC responded to a 20-acre wildland fire on Monday that broke out in the north fork of Murr Creek towards Highway 2 up Thompson River.

The wildland fire was still active and uncontained as of Tuesday afternoon, but Stan Meredith, fire team leader for the DNRC fire crew, said he suspects the fire would be contained by Tuesday evening.

"This is the biggest fire this year," said Meredith.

The cause of the fire that broke out in an active logging unit is still unknown, although Meredith said it was not caused by a lightening strike.

As of Tuesday morning, 80 percent of the containment line was complete. Once the line is drawn around the fire, it is considered contained. Fire crews will begin mopping up the fire and extinguish any burning embers once the fire is contained, hopefully by Tuesday evening.

The DNRC sent five engines, two bull dozers and one 20-person hand crew to the fire on Tuesday. Meredith said the fire department from Marion, along with the DNRC, showed up to the initial blaze on Monday as it is in Marion's fire district.
