Red White & Blue barbecue opens
Red White & Blue BBQ is now open in the building with those colors at 3023 Government Way, just north of Lloyd's Automotive. Norman and Stephanie Wood, who have operated Lil' Nate's barbecue seasoning for five years in California, took over the drive up kiosk that most recently served Persian food.
"We started like everybody else, cooking in the backyard," Norman said.
To promote the seasoning business, they began going to barbecue events, NASCAR races and air shows.
He built his own smoker and slow cooks their meat over wood. Pulled pork, brisket, ribs and chicken are regular menu items.
"We will change the menu from time to time," Norman said. Salmon and turkey will be among the occasional items offered.
"We stick with the basics," he said.
That includes his smoked baked beans cooked with rum, and the tangy cole slaw made with their barbecue seasoning.
A Jamaican-style jerk seasoning will be used to make smoked salmon "a little different."
Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, while Saturdays will be set aside for special events.
Coffee and earlier hours may be added in the future, Stephanie said.
"We are so new we are still playing with our hours," she said.
