Affidavit: Many ballot irregularities discovered
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years, 6 months AGO
COEUR d’ALENE — The ballots have been reviewed, and hundreds have irregularities, a recent court filing says.
Bill McCrory, a supporter of seat 2 challenger Jim Brannon and a man who recently attempted unsuccessfully to intervene in the election challenge lawsuit, signed a court affidavit claiming he found around 900 irregularities after reviewing the absentee ballot envelopes.
Examples of the irregularities include ballot return envelopes that were not signed by the elector, or did not have the date and time receipt written or stamped after they were returned.
In all, there were 877 voted absentee ballot irregularities, 15 of which had signature anomalies. Those signature questions include when the name on the signature line did not appear to be consistent with the name of the printed elector label or was not signed at all, the court filing states.
Around 700 of the envelopes were flawed because they didn’t have the time recorded when the ballot was received, and 593 didn’t record the date.
Brannon is challenging his five-vote loss to incumbent Mike Kennedy in the 2009 Coeur d’Alene City Council race, claiming inadmissible votes had been cast.
A trial has been set for 9 a.m. Sept. 13.
