Coffee fundraiser to help family
POST FALLS - A benefit to help a Post Falls family is scheduled Friday at Mugsy's coffee stand, 1604 E. Seltice Way.
Owner Aimee Jones said proceeds, including tips, will go to Kelly Pistone, wife of Vito Pistone, 29, who died in an ATV crash Saturday in the backcountry of Kootenai County.
Vito was a Marine veteran who served two years in Iraq. He recently graduated with honors from Spokane Community College receiving his airframe and power plant technician license. He and Kelly have a 1-year-old daughter and Kelly is 7-months pregnant.
"We're trying to help the family," Jones said.
Mugsy's is open 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Cd'A Chess Club is forming
The Coeur d'Alene Chess Club will have its first meeting on Saturday at the Hayden Library. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. and is expected to go until about 5 p.m.
The club is for anyone who loves the game of chess, wants to learn about the game or simply wants something to do on a rainy day.
"Of course, if you are the latter, then you may find yourself across from an opponent in a heated game of chess. That is, after all, what a chess club does," said a press release.
Two chess instructors, Harold Wetmur and Joshi Kairov, are co-founders of the club and are top players.
Anyone is welcome to join the Coeur d'Alene Chess Club. The first meeting will be a chance for anyone interested in chess to become acquainted. Free lessons, opponents and a group of people that just love the game of chess will be at the first meeting.

U.S. 95 impact statement approved
The Federal Highway Administration has issued a Record of Decision approving the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the U.S. 95 improvement project from Garwood to Sagle.
With the ROD, the Idaho Transportation Department can move forward with developing specific construction projects.
The corridor will be a four-lane, divided highway. The ultimate buildout also includes frontage roads and access by interchanges only.
Right of way acquisition will focus on the southern end of the corridor from Boekel Road to Granite Hill in Kootenai County. Once final design work is completed, bidding packages will be prepared.
Construction will begin when funding becomes available.
The project is one of six corridors throughout the state to be funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program.
