Basin meeting to be held Wednesday
The Coeur d'Alene Basin Citizens Coordinating Council will hold a meeting from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake City Senior Center, 1916 N. Lakewood Drive.
The public is welcome to attend and get involved in the environmental cleanup of the Coeur d'Alene Basin Superfund site.
There will be updates on repositories, the Upper Basin Proposed plan, blood lead testing, and other Basin-related issues.
The CCC was established to provide local citizen input to the Coeur d'Alene Basin Environmental Improvement Project Commission, which meets quarterly in the Coeur d'Alene Basin area.

Firewood cutting area identified
SMELTERVILLE - A "preferred" firewood cutting area has been identified by the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District.
The area is on the east side of the district on Road 208B, north of Prichard. This is a logging spur road off of Road 208 from a previous timber sale that is being opened to the public for wood gathering.
It can be accessed by taking Kingston Exit 43, then going north on Forest Highway 9 to Prichard. From Prichard continue north on Road 208 for about 2 miles and make a right hand turn on to spur road 208B. Maps and driving instructions for the preferred woodcutting area can be picked up at either the Silver Valley Office in Smelterville, or the Fernan Office in Coeur d'Alene.
A permit is required to gather firewood in the National Forest and can be purchased at either office.

Man jailed over knife incident
SANDPOINT - A Blanchard man has been arrested for allegedly putting a knife to the throat of another man at a convenience store early Saturday morning.
Justin Keith Peterson was picked up on a $50,000 arrest warrant for aggravated assault on Tuesday. Judge Barbara Buchanan sustained Peterson's bail and appointed a public defender to represent him on Wednesday.
The alleged assault took place at Dairy Depot shortly before 3 a.m., according to dispatch records. The 28-year-old victim told Sandpoint Police he was ordering food when Peterson entered the store and boasted about shooting somebody with an assault rifle the day before.
The alleged victim sarcastically doubted the claim, which prompted Peterson to shove him and put a knife to his neck, court documents said. Still images taken from the store's surveillance system appeared to show a weapon placed at the man's throat.
