Lewis-Clark topples Prairie twice
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years, 6 months AGO
POST FALLS - Lewis-Clark's Johnny Rake hit a three-run home run in the first inning and finished with six RBIs in the first game as the Twins went on to defeat the Prairie Cardinals 27-1 and 17-10 in a North Idaho League "AA" matchup at Post Falls High on Thursday.
"It was pretty simple - we didn't throw strikes," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "We threw 115 pitches in the first three innings and another 50 in the fourth. It wasn't pretty. We need to have our pitchers throw strikes."
Tanner Hollingsworth reached base and scored six times for Lewis-Clark (27-6, 12-0 NIL) in the first game.
Bordyn Greiser had a sacrifice fly for Prairie (13-25, 8-8) to score Jacob Coleman with the team's only run in the third inning.
In the second game, Darnell Metcalf had five singles and one RBI for the Cardinals.
"Their pitcher (Ryan Clark) was mixing up speeds and we started to get a lot of base hits," Frank said. "They weren't giving us a lot of walks. Our kids started to feel confident that we can play with them. We just couldn't come up with the clutch hits in the second game."
Bryson Smith had five RBIs for Prairie, which travels to face the Spokane Heat on Monday.
