River Dogs alive to fight for state title today

The Columbia Basin River Dogs kept their hopes alive for advancing to next weekend’s Babe Ruth Northwest Regional baseball tournament in Portland with a 8-5 win over Wilder of Port Angeles. They now must beat the Kent Bulldogs twice today to advance.

EPHRATA — The Columbia River Dogs defeated Wilder of Port Angeles, 8-5 on Thursday at Johnson/O’Brien Stadium to stay alive in the Babe Ruth North State tournament.

With the win, the River Dogs (50-20) now play the Kent Bulldogs today and must defeat them twice to advance.

Kent beat the River Dogs 9-3 on Wednesday to take the edge in the double elimination tournament.

Dylan Signorelli (Moses Lake HS) was 3-for-4 with a homerun, three RBI, and two runs scored.

Matt Herbert (Big Bend CC) contributed with a 3-for-4 performance for the River Dogs which included a homerun as well, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

Stockton Taylor (Brewster HS) was also 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

The winning pitcher was Mitch Yada (Moses Lake HS) while Cody Johns (Natches Valley HS) earned the save.

First pitch at Johnson/O’Brien will be 1 p.m. today. If the River Dogs win, the two teams play a winner-take-all contest starting 30 minutes after the start of the first contest.

The winner of the tournament heads to Portland next week for the Babe Ruth Northwest tournament and a shot at the World Series.
