Red Sox overcome Lee, Rangers in 11

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Kevin Youkilis doubled in the tying run in the ninth inning then drove in the winner with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the 11th and the Boston Red Sox overcame a strong start by Cliff Lee and beat the visiting Texas Rangers 3-2 on Saturday night.

Lee was cruising all night, retiring 22 of the previous 23 batters in his second start since being traded by Seattle. Then Marco Scutaro led off the ninth with a single. He took second on a sacrifice by Darnell McDonald and third on a groundout to second by Ortiz. Youkilis then tied the game with a double.

Blue Jays 3, Orioles 2: Jose Bautista's two-run homer in the eighth rallied Toronto at Baltimore.

Indians 4-2, Tigers 3-1: Austin Kearns' RBI single in the 11th gave host Cleveland a doubleheader sweep of Detroit.

Fausto Carmona outlasted Justin Verlander in a matchup of All-Star right-handers in the opener.

Rays 10, Yankees 5: Reid Brignac had two homers and five RBIs, leading Tampa Bay at New York.

Twins 3, White Sox 2: At Minneapolis, Carl Pavano pitched a complete game and Minnesota beat Chicago.

Athletics 6, Royals 5: Kevin Kouzmanoff had three RBIs and Oakland won at Kansas City.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Cardinals 2, Dodgers 0: Adam Wainwright pitched six sharp innings and St. Louis beat visiting Los Angeles.

Phillies 4, Cubs 1: Placido Polanco hit a tying single with two out in the ninth and Philadelphia rallied for four runs to win at Chicago.

Padres 8, Diamondbacks 5: Tony Gwynn Jr. hit an inside-the-park homer, leading San Diego past visiting Arizona.

Marlins 2, Nationals 0: At Miami, Josh Johnson struck out seven and Florida beat Washington.

Pirates 12, Astros 6: Neil Walker had three hits, three runs and two RBIs, leading Pittsburgh past visiting Houston.

Brewers 6, Braves 3: Corey Hart hit a three-run double, leading Milwaukee at Atlanta.

Reds 8, Rockies 1: Edinson Volquez pitched six strong innings, leading host Cincinnati past Colorado.

Giants 8, Mets 4: Buster Posey and Andres Torres homered, leading host San Francisco past New York.
