Satellite imagery uses subject of program

The Libby Library will be hosting a presentation titled, “Satellite Imagery Applications in Land Management” on Tuesday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m.
The lecture by Dr. Van Shelhamer will focus on the practical benefits of remote sensing to farmers, ranchers and land managers. Remote sensing imaging systems have been available to the scientific community for many years but the imagery obtained by the systems also has practical benefits for the general public.
Shelhamer will address those benefits by discussing what the satellite images represent, how land and plant features can be effectively measured from a satellite, how an image can be used to determine the health of vegetation and how satellite images may be used for crop management.
He will also discuss how to obtain free satellite images and the software needed to analyze the images.
Shelhamer is a member of MontanaView, a professor emeritus of Montana State University and currently conducts geospatial training in GPS, GIS and remote sensing.
