Smith shines at Eugene meet

RUNNING
Tye Smith of Coeur d’Alene, who just finished the eighth grade at Woodland Middle School, won the 1,500 meters in the Youth Boys division at the 31st annual Track City International Classic last weekend in Eugene, Ore.
Competing against runners from California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Canada and Australia, Smith took the lead in the race around the 400-meter mark and never looked back. He won running away with a time of 4 minutes, 28.68 seconds.
Smith is now ranked eighth in the nation in the 1,500 meters going into the Junior Olympics nationals July 27-31 in Sacramento, Calif.
SWIMMING
The Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team had 25 swimmers compete in the 17th annual Steve Omi Memorial Open Water Swim on July 18 at Sanders Beach.
CAST members were the top male and female finishers in the swim.
Bryce Kananowicz, 14, completed the course in 19 minutes, 44 seconds. Anna deTar, 16, was the top female finisher in 22:06.
CAST swimmers are set to compete in two other open water competitions this summer: the Long Bridge Swim, Aug. 7th at Lake Pend Oreille and the CAST Classic, Aug. 14 at Independence Point on Lake Coeur d’Alene.
FOOTBALL
Post Falls Junior Tackle: Registration for Post Falls Junior Tackle is set for tonight from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Mullan Trail Elementary.

River City Junior Tackle Camp: The Post Falls High School football staff is hosting the 12th annual Junior Tackle camp. The camp is July 26-29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Post Falls High School.
Cost of the camp is $50.
