Nats' Strasburg cools down Reds

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Stephen Strasburg tamed the NL's top offense and Washington's offense finally came around behind Cristian Guzman's homer and the visiting Nationals won 8-5 over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night. A day after he turned 22, Strasburg (5-2) struck out seven and gave up three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Cardinals 5, Phillies 1: Matt Holliday's homer leading off the bottom of the seventh was the go-ahead hit for host St. Louis in its eighth straight win.

Astros 4, Cubs 3, 12 inn.: Pinch-hitter Jason Michaels delivered a two-out, two-run double in the top of the 12th inning for Houston at Chicago.

Pirates 15, Brewers 3: Pedro Alvarez hit two home runs for the second consecutive game against visiting Milwaukee for Pittsburgh.

Marlins 5, Rockies 2: At Miami, Gaby Sanchez hit a three-run homer and Ricky Nolasco pitched eight innings for Florida vs. Colorado.

Dodgers 2, Giants 0: Chad Billingsley tossed a five-hitter for his first complete game of the season as Los Angeles beat visiting San Francisco to snap a season-worst six-game skid.

Padres 6, Braves 4, 12 inn: Atlanta reliever Billy Wagner blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning, and pinch-hitter Nick Hundley's two-run double in the 12th lifted visiting San Diego.

New York at Arizona: late.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Yankees 10, Angels 6: Colin Curtis, who inherited an 0-2 count after Brett Gardner was ejected, hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning for New York vs. visiting Anaheim.

Athletics 6, Red Sox 4: Matt Watson hit his first career homer and Jack Cust added a two-run shot that helped Oakland beat visiting Boston.

Twins 6, Indians 0: At Minneapolis, Francisco Liriano worked out of trouble while throwing seven effective innings and Minnesota salvaged the final game of a frustrating series, snapping Cleveland's six-game winning streak.

Rays 5, Orioles 4: Evan Longoria homered, drove in two runs and scored twice, and Tampa Bay blew a four-run lead before rebounding to get the win at Baltimore.

Royals 5, Blue Jays 2: Zack Greinke won for the fifth time in six decisions and seldom-used catcher Brayan Pena had a career-high three hits as Kansas City beat visiting Toronto.

Tigers 4, Rangers 1: Max Scherzer threw seven scoreless innings and Gerald Laird hit a two-run homer to help Detroit beat visiting Texas and snap a seven-game losing streak.
