Luck of the Irish

COEUR d'ALENE - A two-car collision at Third Street and Foster Avenue on Thursday totaled both vehicles, leaving one on its roof and ruining the vacation of one Irish family.
According to police, Karen Reid of Northern Ireland was eastbound on Foster Avenue in a rented Ford Edge just before 12:30 p.m. when she collided with a Honda Accord driven by Coeur d'Alene resident Nick Amorin, 33, who was southbound on Third Street.
According to witnesses, the collision caused Reid's vehicle to flip through the air, coming to rest on the sidewalk in front of Coeur d'Alene Fire Department Station 1.
Reid said she was attempting to cross Third Street when the accident occurred.
"The car came out of nowhere," Reid said brushing debris from her shoulder. "It all happened so quickly that I don't remember anything else."
Reid said she and her husband and son had stopped for lunch on their way to Yellowstone National Park, and had only been in town about an hour when the accident occurred.
"They had to have ran the stop sign," Amorin said. "They came across so fast that I didn't even see them."
Both drivers said they felt OK and did not plan on visiting Kootenai Medical Center.
An investigation continues.
