Mariners blank Loggers

HAMILTON - Kyle Bagnell (9-1) allowed just two hits and struck out 12 and Tyler Linse and Matt Detwiler both hit home runs as Mission Valley (39-16) blanked Libby 10-0 on Friday in second-day play at the Western A District American Legion baseball tournament.

Detwiler, 2 for 2, hit a curveball to left field with two runners on for his round-tripper in the first inning to put Mission Valley on top 4-0. He finished with four RBIs.

Linse homered in the fourth inning, a solo shot to left-center field.

Derrick Rathe had the other extra base hit for the Mariners, a double.

Kalib Gillingham was the other Mariner to finish with two hits.

"We had a pretty big challenge going up against Bagnell," Libby coach Kelly Morford said.

"I wished we would have responded a little better."

Eric Riddle singled twice for Libby.

Libby (29-27) is back in action today at noon versus the Kalispell Lakers. The winner of that contest plays again at 6 p.m.

Mission Valley faces the Bitterroot Bucs today at 3 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 in tournament play.

HAMILTON - Tyler Lind ripped a 2-run home run in the eighth inning to give the Bucs the victory.

The Bucs are 2-0 in tournament play, while Missoula (43-21) falls to 1-1.
