HAYDEN — Brianna Davis, 10, wanted a new goldfish.
“I used to have a goldfish, but my brother flushed it down the toilet,” said Davis, of Athol, who was at Hayden Days on Saturday with her grandfather, Ron Shearer of Hayden.
She planned to take a shot at the goldfish ball toss game to win one. The event was at Hayden City Park, next to City Hall.
Sally Labay of Redmond, Wash., was there with her 6-year-old daughter, Megan, and others.
“They saw the camels and they were excited to check it out,” said Sally Labay. Megan, who had never ridden one, seized the opportunity.
“I would say it’s going to be a highlight” of the day, Sally Labay said.
Katie Moore, of Coeur d’Alene, took her 5-year-old son, Corey, to Hayden Days.
Corey said he liked the inflatable jumping houses and the petting zoo.
“They ate some food out of my hand,” Corey said.
“It’s good for him to experience something like this,” Katie Moore said.
Brothers Patrick Harding, 6, and Christopher Harding, 4, visited the park with their aunt, Ellen Wilson.
“Camels, that was the big draw,” said the boys’ grandmother, Karen Holm.
Wilson said the family always attends Hayden Days. This year, though, they aren’t vendors. In the past they operated a kettle corn trailer.
“This year, we’re just enjoying it,” Wilson said.
Children’s activities at the event also included an obstacle course, a dunk tank, art, big wheel drag races and dart throwing.
Hot air balloon rides were offered Saturday, the final day of the two-day event.
Along with food vendors, the festival had arts and crafts vendors and information booths.
