A Paradise woman was killed in a fatal car crash East of Paradise on Tuesday morning.

Shanti Stafford, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene by the County Deputy Coroner Dan Bates around 1:15 a.m. The accident occured just shy of the second Paradise bridge at milepost 84, east of Paradise.

"She was ejected from the vehicle and had blunt force trauma to the head," said Bates. He said apparantly she was not wearing a seat belt.

According to the Sanders County Sheriff's Initial Report the accident was first reported as a single vehicle rollover shortly before midnight.

The Plains ambulance was first on the scene at 12:10 a.m. where they called in the Clark Fork Valley Hospital Trauma team, but then advised them to stand down and requested the Sanders County Coroner after they made their initial assessment

The Plains/Paradise Rural Fire Department also responded to the scene with three trucks.

Stafford, the daughter of Larry and Sharlene Rivinius of Plains, is their second daughter to die in a car accident in Sanders County.

In August of 2003, Mandy Rivinius, 18, was killed in a head-on-collision with another vehicle two miles east of Plains.

Mandy had recently graduated from Plains High School when she collided with a 2001 Chevy pickup truck driven by an Idaho Falls man.

A posting by the Wild Horse Plains facebook page read, "it is a sad and somber day here. Keep the Rivinius's in your thoughts and prayers."

Good, refreshing fun

Police and ambulance sirens filled the air at noon on Saturday marking the start of the town parade and the highlight of Good Old Days weekend in St. Ignatius. Instead of signaling disaster, the emergency vehicles heralded the arrival of more than 60 floats winding their way through downtown Mission.
