AARP to offerdriving classes
COEUR d’ALENE — Refresh your memory on rules of the road.
AARP is offering a driver safety program for seniors to brush up on safe driving habits as diminished eyesight, hearing, and loss of flexibility sets in.
The classes, Aug. 6 and 7 at Coeur d’Alene Fire Station No. 3, deal with safety and common sense as they relate to traffic laws. A $12 to $14 fee is required, but participating in the class could qualify senior drivers to discounted auto insurance premiums.
Information: Norm or Elsie Toews at 664-4926.
Eagles to offer shelter during fair
COEUR d’ALENE — With temperatures expected to peak around 90 degrees during much of the three days of Coeur d’Alene’s Downtown Street Fair, but with the possibility of rain Friday and Saturday, pedestrians on Sherman Avenue may need to seek shelter.
The Coeur d’Alene Eagles will help provide that with a 60-foot “rest area” in front of the lodge at 209 Sherman Ave. Tents will be set up with tables and chairs for anyone who needs to take a break from the weather or just take a load off their tired dogs.
The Eagles will have its usual concession stands with hot dogs, Coney dogs, brats and beverages, but anyone is welcome to stop by with no purchase required.
And those Coneys are made with the original Boat sauce recipe created by Hap Murphy at the former restaurant that is now Michael D’s, said Bill Miller, Eagles manager.
