Paul Anderson, chairman of the Kootenai Hospital District board of trustees, announced today that Jon Ness has accepted the position of CEO of Kootenai Health. Ness is scheduled to begin work at Kootenai on September 27.
Joe Morris, long-time CEO of Kootenai Health announced his retirement this past January. Since that time, a search committee has been working to identify experienced candidates for the position. Ness’ qualifications placed him as the top candidate.
“Jon Ness is a great choice for CEO,” said Morris. “He has the skills and background to build on our success and prepare Kootenai for the future. Of all the candidates interviewed, Jon is the best fit for Kootenai’s culture.”
“The search committee reviewed applicants from across the country,” said Anderson. “Jon not only had the experience we were looking for; he brings a wealth of new ideas that will help Kootenai move into the future as it meets the new challenges brought about by healthcare reform legislation. We knew we needed someone with experience, vision, and enthusiasm for the role. We definitely found that in Jon.”
Ness is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Billings Clinic located in Billings, Montana. Billings Clinic is Montana’s largest not-for-profit healthcare organization and includes a 272-bed hospital, employs 240 physicians and has 3,400 employees serving eastern Montana and northern Wyoming.
Like Kootenai Health, Billings Clinic is recognized nationally for its excellence in quality and patient safety and also places a high value on a positive employee work environment. Ness has 24 years experience working in both hospital and clinic executive positions and earned his masters degree at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.
Kootenai has planned to make Ness’ transition into the top spot seamless. Morris will work closely with him for a brief transition period and the board of trustees and administrative team will provide support to ensure ongoing initiatives will continue as planned. Morris will also be available to complete projects, board commitments, and offer consultation through May 2011.
“Kootenai Health is an outstanding facility with a reputation for excellence,” Ness said. “I am pleased to become a part of the healthcare team that has accomplished so much, and my family is looking forward to joining the community.”
