OSBURN - Silver Valley law enforcement and residents continue in their search for answers following a wave of sexual violence that originated in Wallace, and most recently spread to Osburn.
On Friday, some time after 2 a.m., a 32-year-old woman from the Osburn area left a local establishment and was sexually assaulted while walking home alone. The Osburn Police Department and the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office are investigating this latest rape incident.
A task force is being assembled to solve the rash of sexual assaults. Comprised of the cities of Osburn, Kellogg, Pinehurst, the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, the Shoshone County Women's Resource Center, the North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force and the Shoshone County Prosecutor's Office, the task force will meet Monday to "get things rolling" according to Osburn Police Chief Charles "Spike" Angle.
"We'll get everybody together on the same page," Angle said, describing the task force as a collective.
According to a press release from the Osburn Police Department, investigators do not believe all of the sexual assaults that have occurred recently are related.
"At this point, on some of the cases we have some people of interest," said Detective Jeanette Woodard of the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office. With the cases still under investigation, she is unable to release further information.
Woodard stressed the importance of basic safety in light of recent events.
The reported incidents of rape began the evening of May 28 in Wallace. Following that night, another sexual assault involving two acquaintances occurred the night of June 19, and on July 12 another rape was reported in Wallace. Friday's incident makes four reports of rape in two months within the Silver Valley.
