One year makes big difference

On May 29 last year, after golfing 18 holes at The Links with friends, Ralph Noyes' car was hit broadside at the intersection of Chase Road and Hayden Avenue.

Critically injured, Ralph was not expected to survive and certainly not expected to make a complete recovery. But recover he did, after a months-long stay at North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital and no small amount of physical therapy. And exactly one year after that accident, this past Saturday, Ralph and the same group of friends, Ron Clayton, Scott Brunsdon and Ken Eikerman, golfed a damp 18 holes at Prairie Falls in celebration.

Tuesday afternoon Ralph was part of the historic coin toss to break his tied election bid for precinct committee representative. Jimmie Masters won the toss, but Ralph's a big winner in the game of life.***

Brittiany Hart also survived a brush with possible death after a freak accident in early April. While cleaning her room, Brittiany was poked between two fingers with bobby pin that resulted in an infection ... rendering her unable to work for over a month.Emergency surgery was needed to save her arm, and the infection required daily hospital visits to administer IV antibiotics. Ongoing physical therapy is also needed to regain full function of her hand.

Without insurance, the medical bills are nearing $30,000 so Brittiany's co-workers at Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company are hosting an outdoor event, Heart to Hart, on Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m. All proceeds from food and beverages as well as the servers' tips for the day will be donated to help defray her medical bills. ***Quite a week coming up in Post Falls ... the Chamber of Commerce will dedicate their new offices and visitor center tomorrow and Friday kicks off Post Falls Days events at Q'emilin Park. I'll join my merry band of parade organizers for our 19th year to put on a parade Saturday morning that boasts the World's Largest Color Guard. Come on out and see what we've got lined up.

***Wish a happy birthday today to Al Williams and Ilene Seidler. Tomorrow Scott Osburn and Matthew Hutchison celebrate. Saturday birthdays belong to JR Appleby, Helen Elder and Evelyn Bevacqua. My sweet friend, DeDe Tondee marks another year along with Don Wilhelm on Sunday. On Monday my best half Bert, Brad Corkill, Dennis Stitt and John Hough are the birthday boys.***
