Post Falls' Meehan to play volleyball at Walla Walla
POST FALLS - Senior Danielle Meehan, who helped Post Falls High qualify for the state volleyball tournament last fall for the first time since 1991, has signed a letter of intent with Walla Walla Community College, the school announced.
Meehan, an outside hitter, was an all-5A Inland Empire League selection in 2009, when the Trojans won their first league title in school history.
The 5-foot-8 Meehan also considered North Idaho College, Eastern Washington, Community Colleges of Spokane and the University of Idaho.
"Danielle is a great late sign for our program," Walla Walla coach Tim Toon said. "She is a proven winner on the court and in the classroom. Danielle is a complete player. Her jump serve, ball control and hard hitting will lend itself to immediate contributions. I expect her to become one of the elite players in the NWAACC."
Ex-Viking Amende named NAIA All-American
Coeur d'Alene High graduate Bruce Amende, a junior left-handed pitcher at York (Neb.) College, has been named an NAIA first-team All-American.
Amende, who pitched the previous two seasons at Yakima Valley College, finished 12-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 81 innings. He was ranked in the top 10 nationally in seven different categories, including third in ERA.
Amende is playing summer ball for the Okotoks (Alberta) Dawgs in the Western Major Baseball League, touted as Canada's premier summer baseball league.
