Lawrence Henry Frost, 95, passed away on May 18, 2010. Born May 12, 1915, in Harrison, to Rose (Morin) and Peter Frost, he was the last surviving of their 11 children. All of his life he lived on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. In 1921 he moved to Coeur d’Alene and attended IHM Academy and then Coeur d’Alene High School. In 1937 he married Arvella Marie Hamilton who passed away in 2006.

He is survived by daughters, Cheryel Thostenson of St. Maries and Kathleen Sayler and husband George of Coeur d’Alene; granddaughters, Marie Dymkoski, Cherie McCall, Debbie Yearout, Heather Amorebieta and Michelle Query. Lawrence loved his granddaughters very much and was very proud and supportive of them and their activities. He is also survived by seven terrific great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He retired from J.C. Penney as a suit specialist in 1980 but continued to assist many local men select and fit their suits even until 2006. He was an avid sportsman, from childhood swimming, running, basketball and ice skating to bowling, hunting and fishing as his primary focus as an adult.

He was a great supporter of local athletic programs from local girl’s softball to NIC basketball. Many young women in Coeur d’Alene knew him as Grampa Gum as he provided bubble gum for all the girls on his granddaughters’ softball teams over the years. His passion for improving activities for youth included serving as president of the White Pine Council of Camp Fire, establishing Camp Neewahlu in Kidd Island, and coordinating work teams of dads to build the camp.

He was known as a man with a positive attitude who was willing to lead fundraising efforts for local causes such as the critical care unit at Kootenai Medical Center. He loved to sing and was a member of a variety of community choirs over his lifetime. His life was filled with music and laughter. All who knew him were touched by his joyful, gentle, loving spirit.

The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel.
