Ed Gallo Tourney slated
Whitefish Pilot | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 14 years, 10 months AGO
The Glacier Twins will host the 21st annual Ed Gallo Tourney beginning June 16-20. Ten teams from Idaho, Washington, and Montana will be competing in this A level event.
The teams include the Glacier Twins, Kalispell Lakers, Kootenai Valley Rangers, Laurel Dodgers, Prairie Pride, Mountain View Toros, Sandpoint, Whitman County Cougars, Glacier Babe Ruth All-Stars, and last year's Ed Gallo champs, Wolf Point Yellow Jackets.
The Ed Gallo Tourney was started in recognition of Gallo's efforts to keep the Whitefish American Legion baseball program alive and successful. Ed was active in Peewee and Babe Ruth baseball in the early 1950s and 60s. When the Whitefish Legion program was unable to keep going, Gallo stepped in donating much of his time and money.
With the help of volunteers the field was maintained, new equipment was purchased, and fundraising started. He helped construct the field on land at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls and invited the Columbia Falls boys to join the Whitefish team. The team became the Glacier Twins.
Games begin at 9 a.m. each day at Memorial Field in Whitefish. For more information, contact Colby Miller at 250-3698.
