The lost art isn't lost after all

The art of the thank-you letter is alive and well at West Ridge Elementary School, I'm pleased to report. On Saturday morning school staff, PTO members and donors gathered to dedicate a beautiful photo mosaic mural that raised funds for classroom technology. Ron Lahr, co-president of the PTO, recognized Tribal Chairman Chief Allan for the Coeur d'Alene Tribe's contribution and Rep. Bob Nonini for his efforts in the fundraising. My contribution to the project was sharing hundreds of photographs of local scenes and people.

What genuinely impressed was that every contributor received handwritten and personal thank you notes from West Ridge students. My sweet note came from Cassandra Hosteler and I give her an A+.

Kudos to Principal Mandy Surratt and the West Ridge staff for instilling the importance of writing thank you cards in these children. It will serve them well in the years to come.

I'll be doing encore co-hosting for the KVNI/AM 1080 morning show next week, on Tuesday and Thursday. Now that the Olympics are over, I should be able to get to bed early enough to be awake and verbal at the crack of dark-thirty. Could it be that at this stage of life, I've developed a face for radio? :) John Martin and Dan Clark will fill a couple on-air dates next week, too.

On Saturday, the Post Falls Education Association's 14th Annual Wine, Stein and Dine will once again raise thousands of dollars for classroom grants for the local schools. Tickets can be purchased at the Post Falls School District Office or call Loretta, 661-1880. See you there!

Loved seeing March come in like a lamb wearing sunglasses and driving with the top down on Monday. Last year we had a big snowstorm to greet the new month. But I've lived here long enough not to be too certain that we've seen the last of Old Man Winter just yet.

Today is Rebecca Kilmer's birthday but she's already living the dream. Rebecca and David Kilmer have been sailing and sunning in Mexico for months. I'm sure wherever today finds them, it will be a birthday to remember. On Saturday beautiful Gladys Schneidmiller celebrates her 92nd year. Adam Johnson's birthday is Saturday, too. Sunday my sister, Janna Scharf shares a birthday with my Laundry Night pal, Heidi Rogers. Cyndie Hammond and Lisa Ferguson share a March 8 birthdate. Bob Frazey and Nate Thoreson mark their birthdays on Tuesday.
