SANDPOINT — Yet another Sandpoint boys soccer player from the last two state champion juggernauts will continue to play in college, as Zac Linscott was recently offered a roster spot on the Whitworth soccer team next season.

Linscott, who boasts a 4.0-plus GPA, received a wealth of academic scholarship aid and plans to study nursing at the Spokane college, which boasts one of the top Division III men’s soccer programs in the country.

Linscott scored six goals to go with six assists as a senior midfielder last year, is not just excited by the prospect of playing in college, but also playing alongside longtime friend Anders Nostdahl, who will also play for the Pirates next fall.

“It will be cool playing with a fellow teammate. We’ve been playing together since we were 9 years-old,” said Linscott. “I’m excited to keep playing soccer and for the faster-paced college game.”

Linscott is currently playing with former Bulldog teammates Nostdahl, Tanner Williams, Daniel Anderson, Adam Crossingham and Jansen Rinck on the Coeur d’Alene Sting U18 team, which has future scrimmages lined up with North Idaho College and the University of Idaho.

Sandpoint head coach Randy Thoreson thinks Linscott possesses the commitment and fitness level to be successful in college.

“He’s got a lot of plusses as a soccer player. He’s tactically smart and sees the game really well,” explained Thoreson of his ironman midfielder. “He played more minutes for me than any player I’ve had in the last four years; his fitness level was amazing. He lives and breathes the game and he can run all day.”
