COEUR d'ALENE - It didn't take Pastor Betty Boggs long to put things together.

A man who attended Rathdrum United Methodist Church called her Monday night and told her about something he had done at a Walgreens Drug Store.

"He didn't give me all the details, it was late at night," Boggs said.

The next morning, she heard about a robbery at the Walgreens in Hayden, and "put it together."

She called the Twin Lakes man, Egan Barred Logan IV, on Tuesday morning.

"We talked quite a while. He asked me what he should do," Boggs said.

After reviewing a few options, Boggs recommended they go to the police.

"He said, 'I'll do whatever you suggest,'" Boggs said.

They met at the church, then headed to the Rathdrum police station together.

"He knew what was going to be facing him," she said. "He was very open to going in. He wanted to correct what he had done."

At the station, Logan, 39, was interviewed and arrested by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department.

He was charged in First District Court Wednesday with robbery and possession of a controlled substance and is in jail on a $50,000 bond.

Boggs said that as a pastor, "I do have a confidentiality I have to respect," and added she accompanied Logan to the police station at his request.

"I want people to have confidence they can come to me whenever they have problems," she said.

Boggs, pastor at Rathdrum United Church for two years, said it was the first time someone had confessed to her about a crime they committed.

She said Logan began attending the church late last year.

"I feel honored that he felt he could trust me enough to bring to me his problems," she said. "That's what my purpose is, more than just preaching, it's to serve the people."

The Young Family’s Foundation launched about a year ago with a mission "to empower young, hardworking families to achieve the dream of home ownership. Even if a family saved $25,000, they would still be $19,000 short of the down payment needed to buy a $550,000 home, which is the median price in Kootenai County. It’s estimated that only about 20% of area households can afford to buy a home.
