POST FALLS - Katie Rowe and Jamie Yurick had RBIs in a five-run eighth inning to give the visiting Lake City Timberwolves a 6-1 win over the Post Falls Trojans.

Lake City (3-0) freshman Casey Stangel had 14 strikeouts, with senior Richelle Ashburn fanning 13 for the Trojans (1-1).

"It was a pretty good pitchers duel," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said. "We had our chances, but couldn't get the big hit when we needed it."

COEUR d'ALENE - Taylor Combo and Pete Hoffman had two RBIs apiece as the host Timberwolves (1-2) defeated the Trojans (0-2) in a 5A Inland Empire League game.

"We came out and swung the bats really well," Lake City coach Al Bevacqua said. "I liked our aggressiveness on the bases. We scored a lot of runs with our team speed."

Vikings fall to Highlanders

COEUR d'ALENE - The visiting Shadle Park Highlanders swept the singles matches, but the Vikings were able to win two of the three doubles matches in a nonleague match.

"I thought we did well," Coeur d'Alene coach Dan O'Connor said. "T.J. (Kast) played a really good player from Shadle in the No. 1 singles. We battled well, but I am excited about our top two doubles teams winning. We definitely have some things to work on."

CLARKSTON - North Idaho golfer Branden Dalton shot a 150 over two days to help the Cardinals finish sixth in the 10-team Lewis-Clark State College Invitational at the Clarkston Golf and Country Club.

Emily Thorud paced the NIC women with a 164.
