Health care reform group plans local 'coffee party'

POST FALLS - A group of North Idaho residents interested in health care reform for the state have scheduled a rally and march on Saturday.
Local physicians and health-care workers are scheduled to speak starting at 8 a.m. at Post Falls City Hall, explaining why they think the current health-care system is broken and in need of legislative changes.
The group organizing the rally and the two- to three-block march has dubbed itself Friends of Idaho Health Care Reform, said Anne Nesse, who started the group with her husband, Dr. Rolf Nesse, both of Coeur d'Alene. Anne Nesse, 61, was a nurse for 15 years.
The group's No. 1 concern: There are 200,000 citizens in Idaho who have no insurance, and 50,000 children in the same boat.
Anne Nesse said at least three doctors and one nurse administrator will speak during the rally, and they plan to provide easy-to-understand information.
Nesse said organizers are seeking representatives from small businesses to speak at the rally, and describe the costs of employee health insurance benefits.
"Small businesses are often in a risky (insurance) pool," she said.
She said positive health-care reform will require that the public and private sectors work together.
Nesse's group and its Saturday event both were inspired by Coffee Party USA, a grassroots network that advocates cooperation among elected officials and civil public discussion.
Post Falls City Hall is at 408 N. Spokane St.
Nesse can be reached at (208) 660-9185.
