Brooke Hageness, a 2008 Libby High School graduate and now a pitcher for the University of Mary, was recently named the Northern Sun Conference’s Player of the Week.

Hageness, sophomore, tossed a complete-game shutout and even scored the winning run in a 2-0 victory over Minnesota-Duluth during the Husky Dome Invite.

In U-Mary’s lone victory at the invite, Hageness allowed just six hits and one walk while striking out four. She also survived a tight situation late in the game to post her first career shutout. With runners on second and third and only one out in the fifth inning, Hageness struck out the next two hitters to escape the jam.

At the plate, Hageness hit a one-out single in the third and scored on a two-out triple by Jessica Alvarado to break a scoreless tie.

For the season, Hageness is 2-3 with a 3.26 ERA and two complete games in four starts and eight appearances. She is hitting .333 with seven runs scored and four RBIs.

Hageness, daughter of Jeremy and Kindra Hageness of Libby, is majoring in exercise sciences at the Bismarck, N.D., school.
