COEUR d'ALENE - Volleyball player Marketa Hanzlova and wrestler Kamron Jackson were named female and male student athletes of the year by the North Idaho College Booster Club at the NIC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction, Awards Banquet and Auction held April 24.

The award recipients were nominated and selected by the NIC coaching staff.

Hanzlova, an outside hitter from Czech Republic, is the most decorated athlete in NIC volleyball history. She was a two-time Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Year and helped NIC finish the regular season as the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

As a freshman, she was also named most valuable player of the Region 18 tournament and helped the Cardinals earn a bid to the NJCAA tournament where the team finished 11th. As a sophomore, Hanzlova led NIC to a tie for the SWAC regular-season championship. She was named NJCAA first team All-American after making second team All-American as a freshman. She will continue her volleyball career at Arizona next season.

Jackson, from Southhaven, Mich., finished his career as a two-time NJCAA All-American and a two-time Region 18 champion, helping NIC win its 12th consecutive region championship. This season, Jackson was the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class for most of the year and finished second at nationals. As a freshman, he was named to the All-American third team as he helped the Cardinals to a national runner-up finish. Jackson will return home next season to wrestle at Michigan State.

The Female Academic Athlete of the Year Award went to women's basketball player Mariana Lamperti from Brazil. Lamperti is a chemical engineering major and will graduate this semester with an associate's degree.

Lamperti has a 3.88 GPA, and will be named an NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American at the conclusion of this semester. She transferred to NIC from Marshalltown Community College in Iowa and was a member of the NIC women's basketball team that finished eighth at nationals this season.

The Male Academic Athlete of the Year Award went to men's soccer player Johnny Mueller from Post Falls. Mueller, who is also a student athletic trainer, has a 3.497 grade point average and has earned more than 80 credits at NIC. He plans to remain in the physical therapy field while attending the University of Idaho next season.

The NIC wrestling team, led by head coach Pat Whitcomb, was named Team of the Year. NIC finished third in the nation and had five All-Americans at the NJCAA tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.

The NIC Booster Club Member of the Year Award was presented to Gary and Bill Everson of Everson's Jewelry and community member Ginni Lenz of Coeur d'Alene.
