MOSES LAKE — Registration is open for Big Bend Community College’s three-day history and science summer camp.

Camp Quest is geared toward middle-school students, ages 10 to 14. The camp is June 28-30.

“The camp is targeting fun with math and science experiences,” said Allan Peterson, camp creator.

Students must register by June 18. Cost is $97 per student.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each day of camp features a new subject and theme.

Day one features a history of the Columbia Basin from jackrabbit roundups to new technologies. This is presented by local author and historian Dennis Clay.

Students are taught the local history in aviation as well as the science and math of flight.

Students can view flight demonstrations and learn about aviation mechanics from Bob Heikell, a teacher, pilot and award-winning radio-controlled-airplane builder.

Day two is titled, “Eco-Agriculture — Farm to Table.” Students learn where our food comes from by visiting a community garden where they will play with bugs, design a garden and make a container garden to take home.

They are also taught about recycling and composting through harvesting available plants from the garden. A professional cook is showing students how to prepare nutritious snacks with the harvested plants.

During day three’s “Trip To Mars,” students will take a trip to Lake Lenore Caves, a testing site for NASA’s Mars Exploration Rovers. Students will also travel to the Dry Falls Interpretive Center.

For more information, contact Big Bend’s Center for Business and Industry Services at 509-793-2374 or visit www.webstarts.com/campquest.
