MOSES LAKE — Cars of all ages and styles are going to be displayed Friday and Saturday as part of the Moses Lake Classic Car Club’s car show.
The event starts at 5 p.m. Friday with a poker run at the Moses Lake High School. The cars are traveling across Moses Lake, stopping at the former Ponderosa Nissan dealership, Ameristay Inn, Pillar Rock Grill, Off Broadway Center and Dairy Queen to pick up cards. The person with the best hand at the end of the run wins $100. Car show participants can join the run for free; other people can purchase a hand of cards for $5.
“Usually there is about 50 cars,” said Douglas Skane, the event’s chairman. “This is the third time we’ve done it.”
Skane said cars will start showing up on between Cedar Street and Gumwood Street on Third Avenue starting at 8 a.m and continuing until 3 p.m. People can register their cars with the show for $25. The price includes a breakfast meal ticket.
“It’s just a variety of cars from original cars to classic muscle cars to the new cars … It’s open to every car. We have a category,” he said. “The last (show) we had 250 cars. This thing isn’t going away for a while because there are too many people who just love old cars.”
The cars will be displayed along Third Avenue with vendors at Carl T. Ahlers Park, Skane said. The vendors include Desert Thunder Custom Cycles and Moses Lake Transmission and Muffler.
“The ServiceMaster NASCAR is going to be there,” he said. “We’re going to be having valve cover races. We have raffles during the whole show. We’re giving away a 700-R transmission … All the raffles are $1.”
The group is awarding trophies for the 26 categories of cars and a best in show award at 2 p.m. Show sponsors are also awarding trophies.
“They’re all impressive,” he said. “It’s not uncommon to have a guy who spends $100,000 on one of these cars. The average guy spends about $40,000 to restore a car … We have two or three guys who still have their high school car.”
The group asks people not to ride their bikes or skateboards through the show or touch the cars, he said.
