That was, and still is, the plan at Boom Town Vendor's Market, where what was to be an outdoor swap meet has been moved inside due to the downpours that preceded the Memorial Day weekend.

"We promised the sale would go on," said Clint Cord, owner of Boom Town Vendors Market, formerly Showcase Resale Center, and Showcase Auction.

Cord is again starting up a summer series of swap meets that will run each weekend through Labor Day, with free admission to the public.

"We have done it outside a few times over the past four years," he said. "The most memorable was during Car d'Lane two years ago."

Throughout the summer, a variety of events will be held in conjunction with the swap meet. Car, motorcycle and 4x4 shows, entertainment and activities for kids including jump houses and clowns are among the activities held in the past and anticipated again.

"We have a good line-up for summer car clubs," Cord said.

An average of more than 75 vendors, including refreshment booths, is expected during the summer, but the first weekend will start a little slower with only a couple of a dozen, in part due to the weather issue.

"We're shoving a round peg into a square hole," Cord said. "There is no more room at the inn."

The auction house was cleared of chairs and other items to make room for dry display space for those who turn out to buy or sell goods expected to range from auto parts to household items, antiques and collectibles, jewelry and hand-crafted items.

The vendors market will be open during the swap meet, and the five-acre Boom Town site will also play host to a large private party park and sell lot for autos, boats, motorcycles, RVs and ATVs.

Swap meet spots are available for $30 per weekend, and parking spots for the sales lot are $40 per month, which includes advertising.

Cord says the exposure to 70,000 cars a day on U.S. 95 makes Boom Town an excellent spot for those wanting to sell their vehicle.

The Boom Town swap meet will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends through Labor Day at the vendors market at 12551 Government Way, near the intersection of Lancaster Road.

"We'll be here through Labor Day, count on it," Cord said. "Rain or shine, we'll bring it inside if we need to."
