Bowe, Downey win county positions

Lincoln County sheriff candidate Roby Bowe and commissioner candidate Ron Downey were among the winners in Tuesday's election.

Bowe attracted 67.4 percent of the vote compared to 32.3 percent by challenger Rex Nichols. Bowe will succeed retiring sheriff Daryl Anderson.

Downey won 55.1 percent of the vote in his victory over Darren Coldwell for the commissioner's District 2 seat. Downey will replace John Konzen and join Marianne Roose and Tony Berget on the board.

Stormy Langston retained her position as the Eureka justice of the peace with 59.6 percent of the vote over Steve Romano.

Justice of the peace Jay Sheffield will be retained with a yes vote of 77.5 percent.

In the state house races, Jerry Bennett won over Eileen Carney with 71.2 percent of the vote. Mike Cuffe defeated Tim Linehan with 69.6 percent of the vote.

Jim Wheelis attracted 60.5 percent of the vote to beat out Robert Slomski for district court judge.

For Montana's seat in the U.S. Congress, incumbent Denny Rehberg won statewide with 60.3 percent. In Lincoln County, Rehberg garnered 69.0 percent.

Supreme Court Justice No. 4's seat goes to Beth Baker with 52.2 percent. In Lincoln County, Nels Swandal beat Baker in Lincoln County with 51.9 percent.
