POST FALLS - Sure, the face on the $10 bill is Alexander Hamilton's. But on the $10 "biz bucks" floating around Post Falls, shoppers will see another face.

The Post Falls Chamber of Commerce is having its $10 biz bucks minted with Frederick Post's face, the city's founder.

"They fit right in your wallet," Pam Houser, president and CEO of the chamber, said of the new bucks.

But these bucks aren't just for fun, they're being printed to be spent - at participating Post Falls businesses.

People can buy the $10 biz bucks at the chamber and spend them at 11 locations currently, including six restaurants.

Houser said, "We're really hoping that people take advantage of it for the holidays."

Houser said they are recruiting more businesses to begin accepting the biz bucks. She would like to see all restaurants, retailers and service businesses in Post Falls participating.

"The more the better," she said.

Businesses that accept the "money" from customers can bring the biz bucks back to the chamber, which will write out a check for the total, she said.

The chamber isn't using the new program to make money, she said.

Participating businesses will use a sign to let customers know the biz bucks are being accepted there, she said.

"We've gotten really good feedback from the businesses" that currently are participating, she said.

The chamber is hoping businesses and individuals will buy the biz bucks and hand them out as gifts to employees, family members and friends.

The chamber initially has printed off 1,000 of the biz bucks, which will be numbered. They will be used once and destroyed. She said the bucks won't be re-circulated. That will help the chamber track the money for auditing purposes.

The chamber will have more made as needed. The bucks were designed by Mallaurcott Design and Marketing, in Post Falls, and are printed on a special paper, Houser said. The first ones were made last month.

Other chambers have similar programs and the results were good enough that the Post Falls chamber decided to give it a try. Some chambers also have coins or gift certificates that work in a similar way, she said.

The picture of Frederick Post is the same one on the mural at City Hall. The Post Falls chamber and visitor center building is pictured on the back.

The chamber has a list of participating businesses on its website, at www.postfallschamber.com. Visitors to the site can click on the biz buck that's pictured on the homepage.
