After seven seasons as head volleyball coach at Coeur d'Alene High, Carly Curtis has resigned.

"I'm tired of dealing with disgruntled/jealous parents and players that are taking their frustrations out on me and my daughter," Curtis said. "And I am trying to look for a more peaceful atmosphere for me and my daughter."

Curtis' daughter, Kylie, is a sophomore who has started at setter and/or hitter the past two seasons for the Vikings. She was named to the all-5A Inland Empire League team each season.

"I think a lot of people couldn't handle that I was coaching my daughter," Curtis said.

The Vikings finished 9-18 this season, after going 2-22 in 2009.

"It was a frustrating season," Curtis said. "And in the end, I didn't feel the support was there for me to stay. I didn't feel there was a lot of support from the administration."

Curtis said her daughter may transfer, but will wait until the end of the semester to decide what she wants to do.

Curtis went 109-91 as the Vikings' head coach. She took Coeur d'Alene to state four times, with a best finish of third in 2008. Curtis formerly played at Coeur d'Alene High, North Idaho College and Eastern Washington, and also is a former NIC head coach.

Curtis said she would continue to coach in the North Idaho Thunder club volleyball program, and remain as P.E. and health teacher at Coeur d'Alene High.

"I would like to thank Carly for her hard work and dedication to the volleyball program at CHS," Coeur d'Alene High athletic director Todd Gilkey said. "She is a dedicated coach who cares about the players and the school."
