Born June 9, 1921, in Cambridge, Mass., and passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2010, at his home in Liberty Lake, Wash.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean; son Donal H. (Cheryl) Kirby of Athol and daughter Cynthia Berghoff of Yakima, Wash.; sister Anastasia K. Lundquist of Auburndale, Mass.; six grandchildren: Amanda, Shawn and Allison Kirby, and Christian, Hans and Nicholas Berghoff; three nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Cambridge Academy in 1940, and entered Boston College in September 1940 where he was a business student. After WWII broke out, he left Boston College in 1942 to enter the USMC as a Private. He served four years as a radio gunner, flew 33 missions in SBC dive bombers from Guadalcanal, followed by a year on carrier based torpedo bombers. Bud received the Air Medal from the Secretary of the Navy in 1944 and retired as a Staff Sergeant.

He entered UCLA School of Business Administration in September 1946 and received his B.S. degree in June 1949. He was president of the Zeta Psi Fraternity while at UCLA. While living in the Los Angeles area, Bud met his wife Jean from Winchester, Mass., and they were married in Belmont, Mass., on Oct. 6, 1951.

Bud started his business career and worked in Los Angeles as Western Regional Sales Manager for Cliffs Dow Chemical Co. in Marquette, Mich., until 1968. While living in the Los Angeles area he served as president of the Westwood Village Exchange Club, and the Ladera Heights Civic Assoc., was a member of the UCLA Graduate School of Management Deans Council and a Comstock Associate of Zeta Psi Fraternity.

In 1969, Bud and Jean moved to Yakima where Bud joined Tree Top as National Sales Manager of the apple juice processing cooperative. He retired in 1986 as a Sr. Vice President. They raised their children Don and Cynthia in Yakima schools and Bud was a past member of the Yakima Country Club and Elks Lodge No. 318 of Selah, Wash.

In 1989, they retired to Palm Desert, Calif., and were resident members of Portola Country Club where they both loved to play golf. Bud was an active member of the board of directors. In 2002, they moved back to Washington and settled in Liberty Lake.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4521 N. Arden Road in Otis Orchards. A reception will follow the service at the church.
