STATELINE - Apparently, depending on the perspective, one man's regular exercise routine might appear to be another's jump to his death.

On Thursday a motorist traveling on Interstate 90 spotted what he thought was a man about to commit suicide by leaping over a Centennial Trail bridge railing and down to the Spokane River below. The bridge spans the river at the Idaho-Washington state line.

The driver called 911 to report the situation to authorities.

About 8:40 a.m., deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department responded and found only one man on the bridge and made contact with him.

Upon further investigation, deputies determined the man, who is in his 40s, was simply exercising as he usually does along the trail.

Sgt. Lisa Carrington of the sheriff's department said the man was being "animated" as he "paced" the bridge.

The emergency call was dismissed as a false report, she said.
