Kennedy asks Cd'A to pay for attorney
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years, 2 months AGO
COEUR d'ALENE - Mike Kennedy is seeking attorney fees from the city of Coeur d'Alene.
The total being sought is around $105,000, city attorney Mike Gridley said.
Kennedy, City Council seat 2 incumbent, accumulated the fees defending his then 5-vote victory over challenger Jim Brannon in the November 2009 general election, a suit that lasted 11 months.
"There hasn't been a decision," Gridley said in a message to The Press. "We're just treating it like a claim and processing it."
Kennedy's win was reduced to three votes.
Attorney Mike Haman, who represented the city in the suit, accumulated around $40,000 in legal fees the city will pay.
The suit concluded in September. Brannon has since filed a motion requesting a new trial. The parties are expected back in court Dec. 7.
Gridley said he doesn't know when a decision from the city will be made.
