Boise State starting middle linebacker Byron Hout will miss the rest of the regular season after breaking his left foot in the No. 3 Broncos' victory over Idaho.

Coach Chris Petersen said Hout will have surgery later this week to repair the foot and it's not clear if he'll be ready to play in a bowl game.

Hout, a junior who helped Lake City High win the Idaho state 5A football championship in 2006, was making the transition from defensive line and his 34 tackles are fourth best on the team.

It also comes as the Broncos (9-0, 5-0 WAC) get ready for two tough games. They host Fresno State Friday then play at No. 19 Nevada on Nov. 26.

• Boise State remained No. 4 in the latest BCS ratings announced Sunday, but closed the gap on No. 3 TCU. See list/B4
