The Coeur d'Alene Police Department has hired a new chaplain.

Daniel J. Perry is replacing Randy Clark, who recently retired.

Perry is a pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church, has been a Christian counselor, and has served in police chaplaincy since 1987.

"My purpose in the chaplaincy is to simply be a source of blessing, encouragement and support to all department members and their families," Perry said. "I am here to minister to you in any way I can."

Perry previously worked with the Michigan State Police, and Garden City and Livonia, Mich., police departments, and Colorado Police Department, where he was assigned as a canine handler.

"Chaplain Perry will fill a vital role as the police department chaplain, as well as provide service to those with needs in our community. We look forward to his service with our agency for many years to come," said Police Chief Wayne Longo.
