COEUR d'ALENE - Every dime, every dollar, every cut, clip and wash.

On Saturday, the nine stylists at JN Couture Salon are dedicating every penny they earn cutting, trimming, dyeing and otherwise styling customer 'dos to fight breast cancer.

"It really hits home for me," salon owner Jill Nelmar explained for her third annual donation tradition. "Because both my aunt and grandmother passed away from it."

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the salon team dedicates the first Saturday of the month to donate its earnings to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.

Not a portion, not everything once overhead is covered, everything. Tips, included. And the salon always chooses Saturday because it's the busiest day of the week.

"I will go until there is no one showing up anymore," Nelmar said of the event. Doors open at 9 a.m. and usually close at 6 p.m., but if customers are still waiting by then, the lights will stay on.

"I will do this every year as long as I cut hair, the rest of my life," she said. "I want everyone aware this is a real thing, but you can make difference."

The past two years have netted $1,200 and around $1,000 respectively.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be on hand to entice those in need of a wash or cut to a little something sweet, too.

But the key of the event is raising awareness of a disease that has affected a loved one in everyone's life.

"I think by doing this and doing our part everyone else should do their part and be aware of it," Nelmar said. "I'm a small little store. I can't give a lot, but I give what I can."

Cuts, wash and style prices range. Females are $30, men $20 and $15 for children. Pink hair strands, the color of the month, cost $7.

The salon is at 5417 N. Government Way.
