National tour of 'Oklahoma!' coming to Cd'A

A national tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!" is coming to Coeur d'Alene for one night, Oct 6, 7 p.m., in Schuler Auditorium at Boswell Hall at North Idaho College.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, two Academy Awards, a Grammy and a special Tony Award, "Oklahoma!" is considered a "classic American musical."

"Set in turn of the century Oklahoma, against a backdrop of the high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys, 'Oklahoma!' is the cherished love story of Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl," according to a press release.

It features such songs as "People Will Say We're In Love," "Oh What A Beautiful Mornin'," and "Surrey With A Fringe On Top."

Based on the play, "Green Grow The Lilacs" by Lynn Riggs, "Oklahoma!" premiered on Broadway at the St. James Theatre in 1943.

Running a marathon 2,212 performances, it became the first real phenomena in Broadway history. The 1955 film version garnered two Oscars.

Tickets are $30 and $35.
