Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years, 3 months AGO
COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene man was sentenced on Thursday to serve up to life in state prison for five counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor under the age of 16.
Michael W. Brady, 24, was sentenced by District Judge John T. Mitchell, who ordered that the first eight years of the sentence would be fixed, and the remaining life term would be indeterminate, according to a press release from the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. The sentence of each crime was the same and will be served concurrently.
Brady pleaded guilty on Aug. 2.
"Brady engaged in sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl on five occasions," the release said. "When interviewed by the police, Brady initially denied the conduct but then admitted his involvement."
Brady had two prior rape charges, both of which arose from allegations of sexual intercourse with minor girls, the release said. One of the rape charges was reduced to a misdemeanor assault charge, and the other to felony aggravated assault.
"Mr Brady is an adult who has preyed on teenage girls. His prior convictions did not deter him from this conduct, and even while in jail awaiting the outcome of these charges, Mr. Brady was unable to curb his predatory practices," Prosecutor Barry McHugh said in the release.
